Pairings with the Pigskin

I am a big fan of football. There's just nothing quite like watching a grown man throw all 300lbs of himself into another to completely deck him.
But seriously, I really am a fan. I was fortunate enough to to watch one of my favorite teams, the San Francisco 49ers, this past weekend beat the Seattle Seahawks and of course had to have some stadium food. White I wasn't overly impressed with the food, the full bar that sat in the middle of an open area with a stage and big screen T.V. were quite impressive.

If I were watching the game at home, this is what I would have had at hand:

  • Bratwurst - soaked in beer and then grilled to perfection. I completely forego the bun and will maybe add some mustard, but really, a good Brat doesn't need much.
  • Grilled Cauliflower - K, seriously thought the white broccoli was disgusting until I was introduced to this version:
    • slice the tree so you have nice, 1/2" slabs
    • drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste
    • grill until there are nice brown/black lines & spots throughout
    • have an extra one ready - it's AMAZING!
  • Veggies with Roasted Garlic Hummus - while I have not made my own hummus yet, that is on my list (my new food processor is going to work wonders!)
  • Beer - For what is a game without a good brew. Dark or light, I like it either way (Winger's Roadhouse has some good beers too!)
    • not a beer or alcohol fan? An ice cold, homemade Root Beer hits the spot rather nicely (my personal favorite is Dad's, purely for nostalgic reasons)
